Podiatry

"Think of the magic of that foot, comparatively small, upon which your whole weight rests. It's a miracle, and the dance is a celebration of that miracle."

What is podiatry?

Podiatry is the study of the feet, how the shape and function of individual feet affect the way that you move and the relationship between foot function and injury to the whole body. For example, if your feet overpronate (roll inwards), this increases pressure to the inside of the shin and knee, and can in turn affect your pelvis and spine, which have to work harder to control your body movements. This takes energy and effort, and is likely to result either in injury or in impaired performance.

Why should I use Victory?

Victory’s podiatrists work with state-of-the-art video and force plate technology to provide the most accurate and effective assessment of the way your feet function. We then relate this information to your medical history and goals to offer the best solution for your feet.

This may include the provision of orthoses, special inserts that go inside your shoes designed from impressions of your feet. These are designed to control or improve the way your foot and leg works during normal walking and running (functional), or redistribute and cushion your foot and leg from the pressure it receives during walking and running. It is also likely to include advice on specific exercises to stretch and strengthen your feet so that they support you as effectively as possible. This in turn will increase the effectiveness of your physiotherapy and rehabilitation.

Who are Victory’s podiatrists?

Victory’s podiatrists are state registered podiatrists with many years of experience, and postgraduate training and experience in sports biomechanics. We have significant experience working with the armed forces and in elite sport.
