What is a VIA?

The starting point for many of our clients as they put their treatment plan in place is the Victory Interdisciplinary Assessment (VIA). In this 90-minute session, you meet the Victory Team, which comprises health and performance professionals in a combination which has been tailored to your needs. They will talk to you about your symptoms, medical history, previous treatment and routines, and will carry out a variety of tests to determine exactly what is holding you back from achieving your goals. As a result, you and the team will work out a clear plan of action, creating a pathway of treatment based around your diary and your budget, to help you reach your goals.

Who is it for?

Someone who might book a VIA could be:

  • A rugby player with recurrent knee pain, perhaps after surgery. It should be better by now, but the player hasn’t yet regained confidence in it and doesn’t feel on top form.
  • A businessperson who works long hours and is starting to suffer with the symptoms of repetitive strain: aching neck and shoulders, numbness and tingling in the wrists and fingers.
  • A salesperson who is constantly in and out of meetings, and wants to find strategies to improve their memory and concentration.
  • A former member of the Armed Forces who was injured during their military career and who is now starting to develop further physical and/or psychological symptoms.
  • A tennis player who, despite hard work on the practice court, can’t quite perform at the same level in competition.

Who would be in my Victory team?

Let’s consider a common example. A frequent reason for someone to book a VIA is back pain. Factors that can cause back pain may include:

  • History of injury affecting the way the spinal joints and soft tissues move.
  • Poor core strength and/or poor flexibility, affecting the way you move and the way you hold yourself.
  • Poor seating or workplace issues affecting your posture, or spending too long in one position.
  • Poor foot posture affecting your walking gait, so that your spine and soft tissues constantly have to work to compensate.
  • Smoking or poor nutrition affecting your quality and rate of healing.
  • Stress levels that affect your posture, the way you move your body and your rate of healing.
  • Underlying systemic health issues such as rheumatoid arthritis or ankylosing spondylitis.

The best VIA team for someone presenting with all these factors would be all of us: doctor, physiotherapist, podiatrist, nutritionist, psychologist, rehabilitation therapist and ergonomist! However, it would be unusual for all of these factors to be present at once, and your VIA team is likely to be somewhat smaller.

Sounds good, how do I book?

When you contact Victory to make a VIA appointment, Nell will discuss your case with you so that we can ensure your VIA Team is exactly right for you.

Because this is a bespoke service, she will also discuss with you the cost of your VIA.

Do you have a long-term niggle, or a problem that may have more than one contributing factor? Book a VIA and let a Victory team help you work out the best way to overcome it!
