Dr Justin Roberts

Dr Justin Roberts is an applied nutrition practitioner and exercise physiologist. He is based at the University of Hertfordshire as a Senior Lecturer/Researcher, and supervises a variety of research students in the fields of applied, performance and sports nutrition. Dr Roberts has a passion for nutritional methods to support performance both in the workplace and for exercise & sport. In particular, he is interested in the field of nutrition for endurance and ultra-endurance exercise, as well as recovery from such activities. More recently, he has consulted as senior nutrition advisor to the England Football squad, as well as Manchester City FC.

Justin holds a Masters degree in Exercise Physiology and Clinical Nutrition, as well as a PhD in Applied Physiology and Nutrition. Additionally, he is a qualified nutritional therapist, and is registered as a nutrition practitioner with the British Association of Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy (BANT), the Nutrition Therapy Council (NTC) and the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC).

Justin is also an accredited sport and exercise physiologist with the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) and is current laboratory director at the University of Hertfordshire. This follows on from his background as a Research Physiologist at the British Olympic Medical Centre, where he routinely undertook performance assessments and support for world class athletes.

In addition to this, Justin is a qualified clinical hypnotherapist and master NLP practitioner (to trainers level). With these combined skills, coupled with over 20 years experience working with clients ranging from novice to elite athletes, clinical to corporate individuals, Justin brings a unique blend of applied nutrition, exercise physiology and behavioural motivation to support your programme and your goals.

Outside of his professional career, Justin is also known for his punishing challenges, mostly in line with ‘practising what he preaches’ but also to raise money for various charities.

Over the past few years these challenges have included marathons, triathlons, International Ironman triathlons, Ultra-endurance races and Tough Guy UK. In 2011, Justin completed the infamous Marathon Des Sables, a punishing 150mile ultra-run across the Sahara desert, in blistering temperature exceeding 50 degrees. He puts this success down to being prepared, eating well and training hard.

If you are having concerns or difficulties relating to your training, recovery, energy, digestion, motivation and most importantly your nutrition, Dr Justin Roberts can help. To get in touch please drop an email to Sarah, or contact us here.
