Dr Victor Thompson is a Clinical Sports Psychologist who qualified as a psychologist in 2001. Ever since, he has been working with people to address what is holding them back in clinical populations (e.g. in the NHS) and sporting populations. His work has focused on helping people overcome common psychological problems, such as anxiety or depression, and other difficulties caused when adjusting to significant life changes. Sport-specific or performance-specific work has focused on helping athletes to overcome performance stress, coping with injury or other setbacks, establishing performance reviews and with competition planning.
Victor is often invited to give talks to teams or to give expert opinion on stories in the media. His appearances include the Times, Independent and Mirror newspapers; BBC Radio 4, 5 Live, Talk Radio; Sky News, ITV News, BBC World News, Channel Five...
In addition to being a psychologist, Victor continues to compete in sport. He is an amateur triathlete who has won a silver medal at the British Triathlon Association National Sprint Championships, raced at the European Triathlon Championships and World Championships as an age-grouper. In June 2011, Victor raced at the Europeans once again in Pontevedra, Spain, where he came 11th. His experience as an athlete gives him a great insight into the demands placed on sportspeople and to understand what is most likely to work for athletes.
